My own journey from Knitwear Designer to Career Transition Coach has certainly not been seamless…

I originally became qualified as a Holistic Health Coach at the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in 2015 whilst still working as a designer in New York. This process gave me a solid foundation as a coach, but it became very clear to me early on that nutrition, although fascinating, was not where my passions lay. I was immediately drawn to the emotional and psychological aspects around food, how we use it to numb ourselves out and ‘deal’ with underlying issues.

From there, I moved to Costa Rica for the best part of a year in order to immerse myself in the world of health, wellness and retreats. I gained my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training, through which my meditation and mindfulness practice grew and subsequently became part of my various teaching posts whilst out there.

Fast-forward through my return to the UK (and fashion), and after exploring options and working with my Firework™ Career Coach I left my days as a knitwear designer behind me. I moved to Spain in order to work on a full-time retreat as a Health and Wellbeing Mentor and Yoga Instructor. This was my official springboard towards the career path I wanted to take.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was perfect for where I needed to be right then. It gave me time and space in the right environment to clarify how I wanted to continue.

On return to the UK, I became a licensed Firework™ Career Coach, set up my business and am now also studying towards a Diploma in Mindfulness-Based Experiential Therapy. I use mindfulness in my work as a coach which you can read more about here.

So you see, it’s never straight forward and it takes time. There are surges and there are ebbs, and there will be dead ends and false starts. You don’t need to know exactly what it looks like or how to get there; or even exactly how it’s going to turn out. Just trust, be open, take it one step at a time and eventually you’ll wind up realising you’re already there.
